In general, you apply as follows:

Many universities accept online-only applications using simple copies (scans) of all documents.

Check here whether your chosen university accepts online-only applications. If so, simply submit all required documents as an upload – even without official certification.

Evaluation phase & status

You will usually receive your evaluation result within 4 to 6 weeks – counting from the day on which we received your application. We evaluate all applications received in order of their arrival.

We inform you by email as soon as the evaluation result is available in your My assist account. You will then find out if your application is complete. We can only inform you whether your application is complete after we have evaluated your application.

Please note: If your application is not complete, we provide you with a list of what is missing or has been submitted in the wrong form. You can submit missing documents up until the application deadline.

Additional information:

The most important thing is that uni-assist receives your completed application before the application deadline expires.

uni-assist has agreed on its own deadlines with the universities for processing applications. This means we can continue to process your application, even after the deadline for you to submit your completed application has passed.

Generally, the universities do not start their admission processes until uni-assist has processed all the applications that we received that were complete and submitted within the application deadline.

Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow more time for your application, because you generally still have to apply to the university directly using the VPD. The agreement with the universities mentioned above does not apply to the VPD procedure.

You can check the status of your application in your My assist account via the application overview.

You will find the current status directly below your chosen study course. The status will change after we have completely processed your application (or any documents you have submitted later).

To find out what your status means, please read Status of my application.

Your application's status changes only after we have processed your documents. Only then can we determine whether your application is complete and, if it is, update your status.

We only forward applications that have been received with all documents complete within the application deadline. If something is missing or has not been submitted in the right form, we cannot forward your application, unfortunately.

We will provide you with a list of what is missing or has not been submitted in the right form. If the application deadline is still open, you can still complete your application.

Tip: Apply as early as possible, at least 8 weeks before the application deadline expires if possible. That way you can still submit any missing documents in time.

Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow even more time for your application, because you still have to apply to the university directly using the VPD.

More information:

All the required documents must be received by uni-assist before the application deadline expires. What is important is the date on which uni-assist receives your documents, not the date on which you sent them. If documents have to be submitted in paper form, it does not matter when you uploaded the documents in My assist. You must also pay for and submit your online application within the application deadline.

If your documents or payment arrive after the deadline, we will unfortunately not be able to process your application successfully. This applies even if the delivery of your post was delayed by your postal service provider or if the bank transferred the payment too late to our account.

We therefore recommend that you apply as early as possible, at least 8 weeks before the application deadline expires, if possible.

If you missed the deadline, you can apply again for a later semester. You will find tips on applying again at: Reapplying.

No. uni-assist evaluates whether your application meets the criteria for admission. If it does, we forward your application to the university‘s admission office.

The university then examines the applications and decides on admission. The university will inform you about whether you will be admitted and how to proceed.

Submitting missing documents

Yes. You can submit documents at any time before the application deadline expires.

Have we already forwarded your application to the university? In this case, please ask the university’s admission office where to send your documents.

Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow sufficient time for your application, because with the VPD, you still have to apply to the university directly.
