VPD - preliminary review documentation
Some of our universities use special application procedures. Find out here what a VPD ("Vorprüfungsdokumentation") is and what you need to consider.
What is a preliminary review documentation (VPD)?
We create the VPD for some universities. It contains the following information:
- which educational certificates were presented
- how uni-assist evaluates these educational certificates
- how uni-assist rates the grade within the German system of grades
Do I need to follow the VPD procedure?
You can obtain this information from our list of uni-assist universities and directly from the university of your choice. The university informs you on which applicants require a VPD and which documents need to be submitted to uni-assist.
How do I get a VPD?
Create an application for the university of your choice using My assist. If the university requires a VPD, your application is a request for a VPD.
Use the checklist:
Checklist: VPD (Preliminary Review Documentation) in 6+1 steps
uni-assist issues one VPD per university. You only state which course or courses you are applying to once you apply to the university.
If all required documents have been submitted in the right form, we will issue the VPD. We will then inform you by email as soon as the VPD is available to download in your My assist account under “My Inbox.”
How long does processing take?
The processing of your VPD application usually takes 4 to 6 weeks after receipt of your application and payment of the handling fee.
You may apply for a VPD at any time. It is valid for one year after the date of issue, no matter which semester you select in My assist.
Important: You need to apply directly to the university with your VPD before the deadline. Therefore, please plan your application with enough time and request your VPD as early as possible.
What do I need to do after receiving my VPD?
You need to apply directly at your university: Submit the VPD as an upload, together with your application documents, directly to your university before the deadline. For more information, please contact the university of your choice.
